Attention, all foodies and health enthusiasts!2025The new version of the "National Food Safety Standard" in 2021 General Rules for the Labelling of Prepackaged FoodsGB7718-2025Officially released! Food labels are the "Windows" through which we learn about food information. What changes are there in the new regulations? How to avoid being misled?TianliLet the editor guide you to highlight the key points and avoid falling into traps when shopping!

I. Comparison of Old and New: This5Big changes are the most crucial!  

1. The date marking is more conspicuous

The font height of the production date and the expiration date of the shelf life should not be less than3.0In millimeters, but the maximum surface area of prepackaged food packaging is less than35The font height of the production date and the expiration date of the shelf life in square centimeters should not be less than2.0Millimeters (no specific requirements for the old version), no need to search through the packaging for small characters anymore!

New addition: The production date and expiration date of the shelf life of prepackaged food should be specifically marked in a separate area on the packaging, and the specific dates marked should not fall off easily. Where an independent area is not set on the main display board of the packaging, the words "See a certain part of the packaging" should be marked clearly and accurately on the main display board. The part marked with the specific date should be easy to find. As shown in the following picture.

2. The "transparency" upgrade of the ingredient list

All additives in compound ingredients (such as "soy sauce" and "seasonings") must be clearly labeled. We can no longer play the "fuzzy tactic"!

Allergen information has been changed from recommended labeling to mandatory labeling, and it must be in bold font/"Underline" highlights (such as milk, peanuts, etc.)

3. "Zero Addition" has been disabled!

Do not use words such as "do not add", "do not use" and their synonyms to prevent false advertising.

4. The nutrition facts table has a threshold for "low sugar" and "high calcium"  

Want to label it as "low sugar"? every100gSugar content≤5g!

"High calcium" requires meeting the calcium content≥30%NRV(Nutrient reference values), otherwise it may be misleading.

5. Qr code information should be handled with caution

Qr codes can be used to supplement information, but core information such as production dates, shelf lives, and ingredient lists must not be placed solely in the QR codes to prevent merchants from playing "hidden tricks".

Ii. Must-read for Consumers3Spot tag traps in an instant!

①Check the date: Find the "Production date"+Are the "expiration date" on the same side and is the font clear?  

②Check the ingredients: It has been clarified that there are multiple requirements for the labeling of ingredient lists. A single ingredient and edible substances that serve the packaging function (such as rice paper) should be labeled. Optional: Excipients of food additives that do not play a functional role in the final product, processing AIDS, volatile ingredients, enzyme preparations that have lost their activity, and removed ingredients.

③It is claimed that the synonyms of "nothing" and "not containing" include "zero"(0)"None." The synonym for "low" is "less". Synonyms for "source" and "contain" include "provide", "contain" and "have".; The synonyms for "high" and "rich" include "good source" and "rich in content"××"Rich"(the)××"Rich", check the nutrition facts table more often for verification!  

Iii. Merchants' Attention: These red lines must not be crossed!    

❌ The use of false promotional phrases such as "Special Supply" and "Exclusive supply" is prohibited.  

❌ False descriptions shall not be made by means of deception, misleading or exaggeration. .

❌ Other foods except health food shall not claim to have health functions (effects) on their food labels.

Iv. Implementation Time & Suggestion                

2027years3month16It will be officially implemented on the 1st. During the transition period, the old version is still available, but it is recommended that enterprises make adjustments as soon as possible.  

Consumer advice: When stocking up, pay attention to the old labels. After the new standards are implemented, give priority to choosing products that comply with the new regulations!
